Any Way the Wind Blows... i. There is something so incredibly toxic -
(why isn't there a softer adjective for the word "binding"? "Confining", "enslaved" and "tying" all sound so harsh)
…beautiful, yet resonant (that seems a bit better) about the last four phrases in "Bohemian Rhapsody".
I struggle to listen to them with headphones that fit you perfectly,
but fall off my right ear constantly.
I'm only getting half of what I want to hear.

ii. It is 2:55 a.m. and you are asleep in the other room.
I wonder if you've rolled over and slipped back into consciousness
and noticed I've left the room.

iii. Sometimes I see you ambling
Slow Burn. You're right. I can write an entire book about you; pages filled with words and inside jokes and song lyrics about (un)requited love and thoughts pleading for you to be mine, but it doesn't mean anything.

Correct. It's all about you. Every damn page is about you. I told you it was, and you want(ed) to see it. Every time I went to write your name it was replaced with either an epithet that felt like an epitaph or an underscore. ________. Because my suffixes don't matter around you. What I Want. I want to sit up on a roof with a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate while the snow falls.

To stand on a porch watching the rain attack the ground.

To fall asleep while a book warms my chest.

To grab an ice cream cone and sit on your lap while I devour it.

To watch the colors flicker in the puddles on the cement parking lot.

To walk into your room, only to discover you've hung string lights and bought candles for no better reason other than to have a good night together.

To create personalities for fish and listen to you describe their war stories in strained Western accents.

SheDoesn'tHaveALotToSay. She dressed how she felt at the time. One moment she'd be wearing steampunk goggles with a dress jacket, white t-shirt and jeans; the next she'd be in a onesie covered with polar bears. Her socks never matched. Her boots were covered in whales. Her bedsheets were covered in lobsters, and a kiwi and tyrannosaurus rex sat idly by her computer while they waited to be tossed across the room into a pile of multicolored clothes. Her room was a zoo under attack by ramen noodles and Nintendo 64 game cartridges. Her ramen bowl was accessible only by pulling her chair away from the screen of her laptop and opening the main drawer of her desk. On top waSheDoesn'tHaveALotToSay. by ~livelovenjoy
